1.LEMO HILL

Unlike other tombs, Lemo is easily accessible to the general public. The typical burial procedure of Toraja noblemen is a special attraction for tourists to see the grave inside the cave. The whitish limestone hills give the tomb its own color, making it far from haunted.

There are a variety of wooden statues adorning the grave hill. According to local custom, the statue must resemble a deceased person whose body is buried in stone. Each family has its own place in the hill, as well as the arrangement of the wooden statues. If they are blood relatives and have family ties, the statues are lined up with their ancestors who passed away first.

Despite being a burial ground, Lemo has its own charm. The view of the cave's stalactites and stalagmites provide epic natural colors. The sunlight that emerges from between the caves gives light so that the color contours of the cave look beautiful. From the holes of the cave, visitors can also see the surrounding natural scenery which is no less good.

At Batu Lemo you will be presented with a slightly different traveling experience. You will see directly the bodies that are deliberately stored in an open space on a steep rock wall. This place presents death, rituals and also art.

When it comes to rituals, for those of you who are curious to see rituals performed in ancient times such as the Ma Nene ritual, you can visit this tourist spot. Then, regarding art, the art has been proven by the existence of wooden statues or tao-tao carved in such detail.

2. LONDA

Londa Toraja is a cemetery complex that is now one of the tourist destinations in North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. Although it gives the impression of horror, this Londa Toraja natural cave cemetery tour is one of the favorite destinations for tourists who come to North Toraja.

This Londa cave burial tourist destination is located in Sangbua Village, Kesu' District, North Toraja. Access to this Londa Toraja destination is quite easy because visitors only need to travel 5 kilometers (Km) from the center of Rantepao City, North Toraja. While if from the direction of Makale Tana Toraja City, it is approximately 16 Km.

Exploring the Londa Toraja cave will be an interesting experience for tourists. The reason is, in the cave there are hundreds of skulls and human bones that are tens to hundreds of years old.

However, when tourists want to explore the Londa cave, they must be accompanied by a guide who has provided lantern-type lighting, visitors are only charged IDR 50 thousand for the facility.

When entering the Londa cave, the humid temperature and the blowing wind are felt in every room of the cave. It gives goosebumps, plus every corner of the cave looks skulls and bones lying around so that it adds to the adrenaline of visitors when exploring the cave.

Londa Toraja also holds a tragic story of a pair of lovers that has now become folklore for generations. This story is often called the Romeo and Juliet of Toraja.

The story tells of a couple named Lobo and Andwi who died together by hanging themselves because their relationship was not approved by their families.

"Getting to Know Toraja's Londa Graveyard that Holds the Tragic Story of 'Romeo and Juliet'" Lobo and Andwi had an affair even though they were still related as cousins because their parents were siblings. As a result, their relationship was not approved by their family.
This is because in Toraja traditional beliefs, relationships within the same family are not allowed.

"Their sense of belonging is very big. Both of them hanged themselves on a tree. After they were found, they were buried in the Londa cave because both of them were surnamed To'pangrapa,".

3. BUNTU BURAKE/JESUS PATTERNS

Buntu Burake tourist attraction is one of the places that should not be missed when visiting Toraja. Buntu Burake, Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi has a magnificent religious attraction. At this location there is the Buntu Burake Jesus Statue which is no less magnificent than a similar statue in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Initially, the construction of this statue aimed to be a tourist attraction while providing an alternative to religious tourism in Tana Toraja. However, the plan was successful because after its construction, in 2016 tourist visits to Tana Toraja increased by one million tourists.

Seen from a distance, the charm of this Jesus statue looks beautiful and majestic. The entire body of the statue is clearly visible. The big hand that looks up seems to bless Tana Torja. Not only seen from a distance, if Aladiners come here, you can also reach the top of the Jesus Statue. The Jesus Blesses Toraja statue is equipped with 7,777 steps.
The charm of this statue is at an altitude of about 1,700 meters above sea level, and Aladiners can directly enjoy the beauty of Makale City from up there. The Buntu Burake statue tourist attraction area is surrounded by four villages, namely; in Buisun Village to the north; Lea Village to the east; Limbong Village to the south; as well as Burake Village to the west.
The panoramic view of Makale City looks very enchanting when viewed from Mount Buntu Burake. The peaceful atmosphere is exuded by the presence of the Jesus Blessing Statue which metaphorically blesses Makale City from above.

4. BORI' KALIMBUANG

Toraja is very famous for its unique way of celebrating death. Almost all of its destinations and tourist attractions are related to this final stage of human life.
Torajans have their own beliefs and respect for the souls of the dead. For them, these souls are ancestors who must be respected and honored.

On our way to cover the Rambu Solo funeral ceremony in Toraja, we took the time to visit an iconic burial site.
Decorated with a stretch of stone menhirs inherited from the megalithic period or the great stone age, at first glance Bori Kalimbuang looks like the charming Stonehenge site in England.

Bori' Kalimbuang is thought to have existed since 1718, when the rante (digontingan rante) was opened for Ne Ramba. In this place there are Rante, Simbuang (Menhir) and Liang Paa' or old stone graves.
Liang Paa' in Bori is thought to have existed before 1718.  In ancient times, burrow workers used buangin wood as a hammer and river stones covered with dried animal skins to make holes in large stones.

The high-level funeral ceremony is known as Rapasan Sapurandanan, which is the stage where when a person dies, the family will sacrifice a minimum of 24 buffaloes and contains at least four types of Toraja buffaloes. Usually the people who reach the level of Rapasan Sapurandanan are traditional leaders or Parenge' and nobles.
Located in Sesean District, North Toraja Regency, the Bori Kalimbuang tourist site was established in 1617. These rocks were once brought from the top of the rock mountain by the locals together when they wanted to hold a funeral ceremony.

Although they vary in size, menhirs, also known as simbuang batu, have the same value in Torajan customs. Therefore, carrying and placing them is not arbitrary.
The stones must go through certain rituals before being transported and placed in the rante location. Around the menhirs, you will find bamboo structures with boat-shaped roofs, typical of Torajan buildings.
These include the lakkian, which is where the coffin is kept during the Rambu Solo funeral ceremony, and the ballakayan. This is a building for families and guests to gather and eat together.

Not only that, besides being used as a place to hold funeral ceremonies, Bori Kalimbuang is also used as a place to bury Torajans who died.
Unlike other burial areas that contain headstones and graves, here it is the stones that are used by the Toraja people as a storage for corpses.
In addition to stone graves, Bori Kalimbuang also stores the bodies of babies who have not yet grown teeth in tarra trees. The cemetery, known as passilliran, is located some distance from the rante area. Even so, you can follow the road signs to reach the passilliran.
Bori Kalimbuang is one of the nine UNESCO-designated world heritage sites for the cultural category in North Toraja. To be able to visit it, you only need to spend IDR 15 thousand and travel about five kilometers from Rantepao, the capital of North Toraja.

5.PALLAWA
Pallawa is a rural area with historical value. It is also where the oldest Tongkonan, the traditional house of South Sulawesi, is located.

Tongkonan Pallawa is a unique traditional house, nestled amongst bamboo trees on a hilltop. The Toraja natives decorate this Tongkonan with a number of buffalo horns. They stick them right on the front of the house.
Tongkonan Pallawa is one of the icons included in the Toraja historical site. According to history, this traditional housing was once inhabited only by a man from Mount Sesean, Tomadao.

During his adventures, the man met a girl from Mount Tibembeng, named Tallo' Mangka Kalena. The two later married, and lived just east of Pallawa Village. It is now better known as Kulambu.

From that marriage, Tomadao and Tallo' had a son named Datu Muane'. When he grew up, Datu married a woman named Lai Rangri'.

Life grew until they had many children. Later, a village was established for settlement and defense.
Tongkonan is the silent witness of Pallawa traditional village
The Tongkonan in Pallawa is the oldest traditional house. This house is where the descendants of Tomadao live, as well as the original inhabitants of the area. In Pallawa, there are often wars between villages.
If an opponent attacked and was defeated or killed, his blood was taken for a drink. Meanwhile, the meat is chopped up and eaten. This has become a tradition, and is popularly known as Pa'lawak.
In the middle of the eleventh century, according to the decision of the customary deliberation. Residents compactly changed the name Pa' lawak to Pallawa', as a traditional housing complex. Since then, human meat is no longer eaten to celebrate the victory. But it has been replaced with chicken.

Tongkonan Pallawa has a "Rante" named "Rante Pa'padanunan", as well as a "Liang Tua" or stone grave in Tiro Allo. In addition, a granary or "alang sura" is also built to store the rice harvest. There is also the making of the oldest weaving with the original motif.
Unique Destinations of Pallawa Village Tourism
Has a strong historical value. Now the traditional village of Pallawa is a tourist destination that you should not miss. The environment around the village is very beautiful, with air conditions far from pollution.
To get to the area, visitors must travel approximately 7 hours from the city of Makassar. And it takes 30 minutes from the capital of North Toraja, Rantepao.
The distance is indeed quite far, there are about 12 KM. But don't worry, the road access can be passed by two or four-wheeled vehicles. Pallawa traditional village has 11 oldest Tongkonan.
Each Tongkonan has a rice barn located on the roof. The roof itself is made of bamboo, which is overgrown with wild plants.
It is very natural, especially since the Tongkonan houses are hundreds of years old. The structure of the building is very unique and made with iron wood. So that it remains sturdy until now.
Today, the Tongkonan house in Pallawa village is no longer inhabited. Because it belongs to a large family, it cannot be taken over by individuals. The local people chose to build a new house, right behind the Tongkonan.
Inside this Tongkonan there are also original handicrafts of the previous people which of course have a fairly expensive selling price.

6.KETE KESU
Known as a village that holds various historical stories, Kete Kesu Village is often a favorite tourist spot in Toraja. Its popularity is not far from the beautiful panoramic offerings that are so charming. Its people, who still uphold their customs, seem to be a complementary reason for you to visit it. In order to reduce your curiosity, check out the following review.

The customs and traditional life are still strong, requiring guests to comply with all the rules and restrictions that have been set. Making it even more interesting to visit, the village holds various ancient relics. The relics are in the form of stone graves, which are interpreted to be hundreds of years old. With these relics, it can be evidence of previous life in the area.

The existence of historical relics makes it included in the list of cultural heritage that needs to be preserved. In addition to luring tourists with its heritage findings, this village is known as a producer of sculpture and painting crafts that have been recognized worldwide. The results of his work are so charming, managed to captivate the hearts of foreign tourists to buy it. If you are interested in buying one of his works, please bring more budget.

As far as the eye can see, there are traditional houses called Tongkonan lined up neatly almost on every street that is traced. Made without using any nails, these traditional houses are built by stacking the wood in such a way. At first glance, it is similar to stilt houses in other regions, but there are some differences that make it look unique and different.

Generally, the house will only be used as a resting place for its owners, but this condition does not apply to Tongkonan. The spacious underbelly of the house is utilized as a cage for their beloved livestock. Even the house is divided into several parts, where one of the parts is used as a storage place for the bodies of relatives who cannot be buried.
Another characteristic of Tongkonan is that the door of the house opens upwards. Besides the unique door, the roof is also interesting to note. The shape of the roof, which looks like a cupped boat, is only made from the stern which is covered with black palm fiber. The shape of the roof is interesting, when likening it to buffalo horns. Every Tongkonan that is built must face north, due to the belief of the people.

When you hear traditional markets, you may think of crowded, crowded, smelly, shabby, dirty and unattractive conditions. Indeed, most traditional markets in Indonesia are not well maintained by the government. However, you will get a different condition when you visit Bolu market in Tana Toraja.
Bolu Market is a market located on the Rantepao-Palopo Bolu axis in North Toraja. Getting to Bolu market is not difficult as it is strategically located and easily accessible by public transportation. You only need about 10 minutes to travel 2 km from Rantepo City with affordable rates.

This unique market in Toraja is open every day from 07:00 to 18:00. But out of the six days of the week, there is one day called market day.

On the market day you will find many buffaloes of various types.
This traditional market is nicknamed the largest buffalo market in the world, because there are at least 500 buffaloes traded in the market with prices varying from Rp. 14,000,000.00 to hundreds of millions and the types also vary as below:
  1. Saleko buffalo or more commonly called bule buffalo
  2. Bonga buffalo which is the same as saleko buffalo but the body is hita colored
  3. Teken Langit buffalo is a type of buffalo that has cross horns
  4. Balian buffalo is a type of castrated buffalo
  5. Kudu buffalo is the cheapest black buffalo.

For the people of Tana Toraja, buffaloes play an important role in life, especially for economic and cultural values. According to them, buffalo is a symbol of prosperity. So it is not surprising that during a death ceremony or rambu solo, buffaloes are sacrificed.

The number of buffaloes sacrificed by the family is a measure of the prosperity of the family.
Said one of the traders at Bolu Market, "The price of buffalo is based on whether the buffalo is beautiful or not, buffalo with a small white mark on the cheek is a beautiful type of buffalo and has a high selling price."
In addition to selling livestock in this market also sells a variety of handicrafts of local Toraja residents such as (woven bags, Toraja cloth bags, typical Toraja land sarongs, shawls, and some accessories of handicrafts of the original Toraja people. If you want to visit the Bolu market, don't forget to pay more budget, even if you don't buy animals, at least you can buy the handicrafts of local residents who have quite attractive prices.

6.Nonan Mountain / Mis Mountain Enrekang
On the way to Toraja we will pass through several districts among which there is Enrekang Regency which is no less beautiful tourist objects than Toraja, one of the attractions in Enrekang that will be passed on the way to Toraja is Mount Nona or known as Buntu Kabobong by Enrekang residents. This mountain not only has a unique shape that is in the shape of a woman's genitals but has an interesting story that until now has maintained its sacredness.

According to stories believed by local residents, the unique surface shape of Buntu Kabobong did not just happen. Rather, the surface shape of Buntu Kabobong resembles a woman's genitals because of an event that occurred at that time.
At that time, at the foot of the mountain, there was a kingdom called the Tindalun Kingdom. The old kingdom had a society that was supported by the fertility of nature.
Once upon a time, a child appeared whose face was very handsome and whose skin was white and clean. The child was believed to have come from the sky or the people called him To Mellao Ri Langi.

The child was first found by a beautiful mother named Masaang, a resident of Tindalun Village.
"The story goes that Masaang and other villagers saw a fire burning around the village at night. Out of curiosity, they approached the source of the fire and found the handsome-faced child not far away."
The child's physical features, or what the community calls To Malabbi, amazed Masaang and the other villagers. So the community brought the child back to Tindalun village and was raised by Masaang.

"Masaang herself tells the story of a mother who has 5 children but does not live together. In fact, one of her children is unknown where he is or just disappeared."
After several years in Masaang's care, the child grew into an adult and was then matched with the daughter of the king of the Tindalun Kingdom who was equally beautiful.
The two of them began their married life and were eventually blessed with a son named Kalando Palapana.

"The story goes that Kalando Palapana inherited the throne of the Tindalun Kingdom. And he led the people of Tindalun village, which is known as a village that is so prosperous because of the abundance of natural products."

But behind the natural fertility given by God, made the people of Tindalun who lived in the Mount Nona Enrekang area forget themselves. Living in a state of rah-rah even their behavior was outside the boundaries of the religious and customary norms that prevailed at that time.
Until a very deviant sex case emerged

Deviant sexual behavior continues to color the lives of the Tindalun community. They have sex outside of marriage and do so regardless of the time of day.

"The king was anxious to see the deviant behavior of his people and even the negative things that his people did had infected one of the royal relatives,"

Because the anxiety continued to haunt, the king also gathered all traditional and religious leaders at that time to discuss the efforts that would be made so that the people of Tindalun would realize and leave their free sexual behavior without restrictions.

"Although the king had tried hard at that time, the people's behavior became worse. They didn't care about their own king's orders so disaster came and devastated the village of Tindalun,"
God was angry and sent down his curse on the people of Tindalun. One of them was cursed to become a hill that resembled the woman's genitals.

"That is the west-facing mountain located to the east of Mount Nona Bambapuang which is then known as Buntu Kabobong,"
Not only that, next to it there is also a mountain that resembles male genitalia. Where between the two mountains is separated by a tributary.
